YEAR FOUR (4)



AIMS of MYP LANGUAGE B are to


provide the students with proper language and communication skills to use English effectively as a means of practical communication necessary for future activities.


enable the students to understand the nature of language, importance of language learning based on linguistic, cultural and social components.


encourage the students to develop an appreciation of variety of texts (literary and non-literary).


encourage an awareness and understanding, offer insight into and promote involvement with different cultural communities.


provide access to varied sources of information.


foster a lifelong interest and enjoyment in language learning and general curiosity.


OBJECTIVES of MYP LANGUAGE B


At the end of the course, the students will be able to:


SPEAKING – criteria A and B:

- communicate information, ideas and opinions both in formal and informal language on familiar topics “Extreme sport”, “Music”, “Pictures”, “Buildings”, “Adventures”, “Travelling”;

- be able to hold a 3-5 minute presentation in public on it on the topics “Sport”, “Music”, “Art”;

- request and provide relevant information and opinions in spontaneous spoken interaction in full but natural questions/answers on the topics of the course;

- understand and use appropriately active vocabulary and grammar structures such as Present Simple/Continuous/Perfect; Past Simple/Continuous/Perfect; Future (will/be going to); Passive Voice; Conditionals (0/I/II); Reported Speech; Relative Clauses; Comparisons .

Assessment tasks: presentations, interviews, debates, descriptions of pictures/photos.


WRITING – criteria C and D:

- communicate information, ideas and opinions both in formal and informal written language on familiar topics “Extreme sport”, “Music”, “Pictures”, “Buildings”, “Adventures”, “Travelling”;

write connected texts in familiar topics of the course in formal and informal language in different tasks;

- use appropriately active vocabulary and grammar structures such as Present Simple/Continuous/Perfect; Past Simple/Continuous/Perfect; Future (will/be going to); Passive Voice; Conditionals (0/I/II); Reported Speech; Relative Clauses; Comparisons .

Assessment tasks: narration, interview, review, report.

READING – CRITERION E:

- understand texts of formal and informal styles in different genres (stories, adapted articles, interviews) with familiar and unfamiliar language.

Assessment tasks: true/false/not given, multiple choice, matching, sequencing, predictions, gap filling, table completion, finding facts/opinions/attitudes, open questions.
