By the end of the second year the students will be able to…
Use language effectively as a means of practical communication in the following spheres: films, television, life challenges, traditions etc
demonstrate comprehension of specific factual information and attitudes, expressed in spoken and written contexts
identify main ideas and supporting details and draw conclusions from spoken and written texts in debates, public presentations, interviews etc.
understand and appropriately use structures (Present grammar tenses: Simple, Continuous, Perfect; Past Simple, Past Continuous, Future Simple, modals verbs – should, must, can; passive voice, conditionals) and vocabulary (on the topics mentioned above)
engage actively in oral production using comprehensible pronunciation and intonation
interact spontaneously in the conversation in both dialogues and monologues.
use a format and structure appropriate to the task to organize a written work (writing an informal letter, essays, advertisements etc)
ATL skills
language-acquisition skills — developing effective language-learning strategies, reading and listening for main ideas, reading and listening for specific information, similarities and differences between languages, deducing meanings from context
information literacy skills — knowing which sources to use and how to find them, use of dictionaries and other reference sources including the Internet
communication skills—speaking, listening and reading for understanding, writing, responding effectively, questioning, presenting
collaborative skills—working as a team, engaging in effective peer work
thinking skills – comparing, classifying things and objects according to given basis, analysing information, paraphrasing ideas and thoughts, identifying notions of “statement” and “argument’
reflection skills—reflecting critically on their own work and that of their peers
